Pharrell Williams is to open a youth centre to help young people in Virginia Beach.
The new initiative will help young people find support in following their artistic talents.
“I wanted to provide people with the same opportunities I got,” he says in Wallpaper magazine. “My teachers didn’t let me go until I had realized my potential. They taught me to fight my way out of a paper bag.
“Children need guidance and creative discipline and someone to be there when they fall. They also need a safe haven. At the moment, arts organizations across the U.S. are having their funding cut and we can’t let that happen. There’s so little regard for creative skills. Where would we be without design?”
The new facility will be built in Williams Farm Park, and aims to provide an environment conducive to learning and serve as a place to “inspire and educate”. The Center’s programs will seek to change the world of the underserved kids, one kid at a time, by giving them resources/tools to meet their unique potential. The vision of the center is to modernize the community center concept by empowering kids to learn through new technologies, arts, and media.
The Center will serve school-age children through second year of college in the greater Virginia Beach area.
In spite of his extensive worldwide travel and business commitments, Pharrell remains committed to the Virginia Beach community. Since 2004 he has provided financial support for the Back to School Supplies program and the distribution of Thanksgiving turkeys to residents of the neighborhood in which he grew up. The PWRC will be the crown jewel of his investment in this community. Pharrell provided the original vision for the Center and he will be involved both in the campaign to raise funds for its construction and in the development of its programs.
The estimated cost of the PWRC and an endowment for operations and maintenance is $35 million. The projected opening date is 2013. The venture will be supported by Pharrell’s charity, From One Hand To Another.
LOS ANGELES, July 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — On July 4, celebrated runner and activist Jonathon Prince will embark on “California Dreams,” a 60-day, 795-mile solo run invoking the spirit of positive change. “Dreams” will mark the fourth major run for Prince, whose previous cross-country efforts were lauded for their innovative approach to cause marketing.

Accompanied only by a jogger stroller laden with his personal effects, Prince will run the entire Pacific Coast of California, bonding with citizens and offering inspiration by example. Says Prince, “If I can inspire just ONE person to make a positive change in their life or in the lives of others, thus creating a cycle of inspiring others to do the same, I could make this world a better place for generations to come.”
“California Dreams” will mark Prince’s first project thematically rooted in a single place and honoring its aspirational allure. As a visionary “Athli-vist” (athlete-activist), Prince has run over 8,000 miles through 24 states, inspiring hope and raising awareness for his philanthropic endeavors. In 2005, he launched Run 4 Relief with a 2,700-mile run from Los Angeles to Atlanta, stopping to receive the key to the city in New Orleans. The following year, his Run for Relief II took him on a 1,500-mile trek from Atlanta to New York City. Both runs raised money to support families displaced by Hurricane Katrina. In 2010, he created HopeOrDie, promoting the cause with a 3,000-mile run from Santa Monica to Washington, DC.
Prince explains, “It’s imperative to keep dreams alive because that’s how we evolve. I believe this world will be a better place, when more people start dreaming again, but more importantly put action behind their dreams.”
As a bulwark against today’s sobering headlines, Jonathon Prince is running to influence others to reconnect and chase the dreams they once had and to encourage them to create new dreams. He elaborates, “You have to be forever conscious not to take away from someone’s dream, because it may be all they have. I’m looking to encourage Cali’s Dreamers to realize their dreams while chasing mine against the backdrop of California’s majestic coastline.”
Jonathan Prince’s “California Dreams” run kicks off July 4 at 11AM, along the Oregon – California border in Del Norte County town of Crescent City, CA. Below is the full schedule for the 60-Day event. Runners of all ages are encouraged to accompany Jonathon along his daily route to share their stories and support his statewide effort in making a dream come true.
About Jonathon Prince: International Runner, Artist, Motivational Speaker and Philanthropist, Jonathon Prince has logged over 8,000 miles running in support of a cause or ideal. Recognized by Ebony magazine for representing the “Future of Philanthropy,” Jonathon has pioneered the role of “Social Athi-vist,” using his feats of endurance to promote positive change. The Dalai Lama has announced a $100,000 donation to a charity while touring Australia.

His Holiness has announced the donation while in Melbourne, with the money to go to the 20th Man Fund, a charity that advocates on behalf of those young people whose full potential have been restricted by poverty, family breakdown and discrimination.
Charity founder Les Twentyman was completely blown away by the donation, which was announced at a public talk the Dalai Lama was giving in the city.
“He just said, ’I’d like to contribute to your charity. I want to make a donation of $100,000.’ I almost fell off the stage. People had to grab the chair and push it back. It was all in Tibetan so I didn’t understand it at first’.”
“If you don’t know love, someone will come along and teach you how to hate yourself, then you’ll confuse the two!”
No one can tell you all that love is, but I can tell you what it isn’t. One thing that I’ve found to be true is that REAL LOVE doesn’t hurt – at all. And when you are hurting, it’s not from a place of love! Don’t confuse the two.
So many people have entered into a relationship where neither party knew real love. Then their insecurities surfaced and they projected them onto one another. Next they selfishly tried to make the other person fill voids in their life. Miserably, they failed. It resulted in fights and nights filled with tears. Then to top it off, they called it love!
News flash: that’s not love, that’s self-hate.
Evaluate your relationship today. If your partner isn’t adding to you then they are taking away from you. It is very possible to have a relationship without any love in it. So please don’t label a toxic relationship as love. It’s part of the reason why love has a bad name today.
Before you can love anyone, you must first love yourself. A part of loving yourself is being strong enough to let someone go so that the both of you can grow. Then take time to learn what real love is and what a healthy relationship is. Then, and only then, are you ready to enter into a relationship.
Love speaks languages of it’s own and pain isn’t one of them.

Like Gisele, former Miss World Priyanka and fellow actress Li Bingbing have pledged to plant a tree for every WED activity registered in their name. Full of confidence, Don, Rahul and Chinese real estate tycoon Wang Shi have pledged to plant two trees.
Whether it’s switching from plastic bags to cloth bags, car-pooling with colleagues or organizing a tree-planting day, WED activities can be big, small, local, international, noisy, quiet….just as long as they’re green.
World Environment Day 2011 – hosted for the first time in India – is all about positive action for the environment. Thousands of people across the world took part in WED activities on June 5th, ranging from litter clean-ups around Mount Everest to mini-marathons in India, to music festivals in Belgium.
This year’s theme, Forests: Nature at Your Service, celebrated the multitude of services, such as providing clean air, housing rich biodiversity, supplying water, performed by the world’s forests.
